A painted wet-room system only performs if it's applied exactly right — over the correct substrate, in the right conditions, and sealed at every edge and penetration. MVK is specific about all of it.
Conditions and substrate
The air temperature (and the material and substrate) must be at least +10 °C. Only the system's own materials are used — including its unique fillers and sealants — and paints and adhesives are stored frost-free. Sloped walls and ceilings are treated as walls, and any marking is done with pencil only (other markers stain the finish). The substrate — concrete, board or plaster — must be dry, clean, pore-free, even and strong enough. Cardboard-clad gypsum board is allowed; wood and wood-based cladding boards are not. AMA Hus requirements on the substrate apply.
Connections — where the system meets tile and floor
The painted system is always applied after any mat or tile system. At internal corners in wet zone 1, the reinforcing cloth overlaps at least 5 mm. Where the painted surface meets an upturned floor mat or a ceramic membrane, the cloth is drawn down about 30 mm over the edge and the system ends at least 65–70 mm above the floor, overlapping the tile's membrane by about 30 mm so moisture can't track behind it. At windows and doors, a VT system is set tight to the frame and sealed before overpainting.
Sealing penetrations and fixings
After painting, penetrations and fixings are sealed per the system's instructions: a screw seals against the surface, its hole filled with sealant before the screw goes in, with a plug if needed. To let the membrane reach close to the pipes, mixers and cover plates are left off during application.
Repainting an existing wet room
The existing membrane must be undamaged and a previously MVK-approved system. Small holes (up to 10 mm) are filled; a larger hole in a VT system means repairing the whole wall, corner to corner. An unknown or unsuitable substrate is removed and the surface treated as new.
