BBV: wet-room tiling certification and the quality document

Ceramic tiling in a wet room isn't a job for whoever is cheapest — under BBV, the trade rules of the Swedish Ceramic Tile Council (Byggkeramikrådet), it's controlled through certification, just like the plumbing and waterproofing.

Certified companies

Certification is granted by the Swedish Ceramic Tile Council on application. A certified company must have tiling as its established, regular business and employ its own tilers — at least one holding a Swedish professional certificate or equivalent proven experience (three years of full-time tiling). It must also keep orderly accounts and be properly registered for tax. Only companies that meet these conditions may carry the certification.

Trained, maintained, audited

Certification rests on certification training, is maintained over time, and is backed by quality audits. It can be terminated if standards slip. This is the same logic running through every Swedish wet-room trade: the standard is enforced through who is allowed to do the work and how they're checked — not left to chance on site.

The quality document

A certified company performs the work to BBV and issues a Quality Document for every wet-room contract, recording what was installed. That document is the client's proof the tiling and its waterproofing were done to standard — the paper that matters at an insurance claim or a future sale.

Professionalism, repairs and DIY

BBV also defines professional conduct, how partial repairs must be handled, and the limits of do-it-yourself work — so the boundary between a compliant job and a risky one is clear.
